Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, or Playstation 3?

All I need is another addiction in my life, but I am a sucker. I have successfully avoided the purchase of an Xbox 360 so far, but now that the “other” systems are just around the corner, I am twitching again.

So which is it?
For me, I have to be a little partial towards te Xbox for the connectivity across the platforms I use and my being a Microsoft MVP and all. My other side is pulling towards the Wii since my wife and I have loved the Zelda series games. One thing I am waiting on is the Zune verdict in regards to Xbox 360 too. We really do not need a game system though. I gave away my Mountain Dew Xbox and I still have an original Playstation in my son’s room. My daugter has a Game Cube and something else. I have my PC! All I need is Zelda to waste my nights away, huh?

What are you waiting for, or have you already gotten the 360 and happy?

$500 for a PS3 is good price when viewed from the UK where the predicted launch price is £549 - nearly twice what you will pay. but $500 is still $500 and I have to say that the 360 looks like a nice piece of kit so unless the Sony is something very special (which it doesn't look like being) the best option for your bank account as Jonah said would be the 360 and the Wii - you can always pick up a PS3 when the prices drop like they did with PS2.

I've got to suggest going with the Wii on this one, you have a son and daughter, you have a 360, you have a PC. From everything I've seen the PS3 has not wowed me as much as I'd hoped. Side by side with the 360 it's not that huge of a jump graphically unless you have the uber HD Tv to accompany it. Lower price point, easier to pick up and play for the whole family, and access to virtual console and Gamecube play? Sounds like Wii to me.

Getting all the nintendo exclusive games never hurts either. I have PS2 and Xbox currently, the only systems I've bought that were not nintendo in my life. If I had the cash for two it would be the Wii and the 360. Frankly the PS3 games slated don't seem that exciting.

Go with the Wii, your whole family will be glad you did. So will your bank account.
  • Wii or 360. Too many delays with PS3, and they want $500 for the basic system? 360 is very hot, already established, and has built up an ocean of games in its sizable 1 year head-start. And the extra interoperability is a big plus. Wii's value-pricing and accelerometer controller will make it a winner, especially with sports gamers. PS3 will be late, expensive, and will have to fight to regain its reputation lost early on because of performance concerns. As a user and lover of a PS2, I have to say that I will be a little disappointed that I won't be able to upgrade into this system; the reverse-compatibility that Sony built into the PS2 will be carried over, and it is sure to be a powerful system, but daammnnn, it's expensive.
