Chris Leckness is a Geek

Incoherent ramblings from a redneck tech geek

I have caved in on advertising…

Starting off Aximsite was just one big hobby. I told my wife that as long as I got a couple cases for my Axim for free and a couple ads paid for my hosting, I would be really happy. Well, that happened and I have been really happy. My web presence didn’t start with Aximsite though. I had some other projects and have been in the web game since 1998. In that time, I have developed some ideas for what I should and shouldn’t do. I am sort of old school on advertising.

When Aximsite was in it’s prime, I passed on several ad methods that could have made me a ton. Later, I have allowed one of those methods to get on the site. Those green ad words. I don’t like them, but they help pay the bills. I, like most, have gotten used to them. Looking back, I am glad that I chose to stick to my guns, but the extra money they would have generated if I had gone with them a year earlier would have been nice.

Moving forward, I have resisted adding ads to my RSS feeds for 2+ years. I just don’t like them. I have come to the conclusion that people are becoming immune to them as well though. Almost every feed I read has them now. For the last 2 weeks, I have been contemplating going back on my word that I would never add them. Today, I decided to give them a chance.

If you read my feeds and this bothers you, chime in. I think it will be ok though. We’ll see.

News Flash - I Can’t Sing

worldtour I used to play the guitar, but I have learned recently that I can not sing. I can sing good enough to fool a game though. I was reading news item at Engadget about a Microphone that was incompatible with Rock Star which was funny since I’ve been goofing off with the Kids on the Wii lately.

Over the weekend and last night, I have been the lead singer of the band in both American Idol and my daughter’s new Guitar Hero game. Turns out the mic from American Idol for the Wii works with the newest Guitar Hero that allows for “band” additions now.

You should have heard me and Brittney doing Korn’s Freak on a Leash. Brutal. Last night my son and I tore up Lips of an Angel and Knocking on Heaven’s Door on American Idol. I’ll have to record some of this and share. :)

Roll Tide Baby!

I haven’t posted much about the Tide this year, I really hate to jinx it all, but I have a feeling that my joy about this season will have no impact on how they play. They are doing just fine. Roll Tide!

To be honest, If we lost the rest of the of our games, the season would still have far exceeded my expectations. I would have been elated with an 8-4 season!

11-0 and Still Rolling! Good Luck against Auburn and then Florida in the SEC Championship game guys!

Can anyone tell me what Snake this is?

This evening, we found this snake in our yard. My wife really wants to know what it is. Websites showing common Alabama snakes don’t have anything like it. Could this be someone’s pet on the loose?

Various Pics 191 by you.

Check out all the bad photography on Flickr.

American Gladiators "Crush" is an MMA Star Fighter. WOW!

My favorite American Idol Gladiator is Crush. Tonight I was watching MMA Fighting on CBS and my wife noticed that Gina Carano looked like a smaller version of Crush. Well, right before the fight, where she annilated her opponent, they showed her intro and damn… It is her.

WOW! She smoked her opponent tonight.

I have held my tongue for a long time…

Now it’s time to get excited, ROLL TIDE. #2 in the AP Polls with 21 1st place votes!

If you are not an Alabama or SEC fan, you have no way of knowing what it’s like down here with college football. I know some places are passionate about it, but unless you’ve been here, you just don’t know how crazy it gets here in Tuscaloosa.

I am not your typical Alabama fan though. I love my fellow fans, but we have some of the most narrow minded fans in the world. They typically ignore facts and think that we are the best team in the country, even if we are 0-12. I see it how is for the most part. I didn’t expect a win last Saturday vs. Georgia. Sure, I was damn sure hoping, but not expecting it.

When we were sitting at 3-0 and the radio show Alabama fan callers were penciling Alabama into the championship game, I was holding my face in my palm. When we hit 4-0, I was saying to friends and family, “Let’s not get too excited yet”. Well, at 5-0, I am ready to relax a little. But…

I am very pleased with Bama at 5-0, I loved the 1st half 31-0 ass whooping. I was not pleased with the 2nd half though. I feel that we should have continued to play as tough as possible throughout the entire game. Georgia seemed to get a little better the 2nd half too, but I saw some letting up from Bama too.

Anyhow, I am starting to get excited about this season. It’s starting to look like I should change my expectations. Being happy with 8-4 might be too easy of a task for the TIde!

ROLL TIDE!

I Like Mark Cuban!

Mark likes to chime in on various subjects and here is what he has to say about the Bailout.

As you can tell by the number of the posts on this subject, I think we are in a very serious financial situation in this country. It’s bad for everyone and like many others while I think the Bailout is necessary, I would prefer any solution that doesn’t involve the government. Unfortunately, I don’t think a pure market based solution is possible.

That said, I considered what it would take for me to part with my money to provide liquidity into the banking system.

I will not just write a check to the Treasury. Thats like handing it to Ted Stevens. I’m not going to voluntarily give a year’s supply of crack to the junkies.

I’ve Bolded my favorite quote! Read the rest of his post at Blogmaverick.
